People Who Like What?

When it comes to human beings, it’s interesting to note how similar – and different we all are. Many of us have similar lifestyles or upbringings, yet are totally different in our likes and dislikes. You would think that our pasts would have something to do with our preferences. And, sometimes it does. But there is no telling what likes and dislikes one individual may have just by knowing their past.

Wealthy people – you would guess, like expensive things. Yet, you meet many very well to do people that shop at discount stores or have coupons for sale items in their wallet. Is it because of the way they were raised? Maybe it is just good common sense to be thrifty no matter how much you have. There are wealthy people that are scrooges, and others that are philanthropists. There is no telling what type of spender you are just by the amount of money you have in the bank.

In the same way, there are many poor people that are so generous that they would give their last nickel to anyone that they felt needed it more. It seems that poverty can bring out the best in some people. Many seem to have an awakening on what is truly important in life. Living meagerly is a hard, stressful way to live; yet some of the happiest people on earth have very little in monetary things.

Opposites tend to attract each other. However, like-minded people tend to congregate together. Our likes and dislikes are as individual and wide spread as the types of cereal there is to choose from at the grocery store. The boxes all contain cereal, but the brands, flavors and nutritional values are all over the board.

Building a Portfolio that Wows

Looking for a new job can often be a frustrating experience. Surfing the net, finding an interesting job posting and sending in resumes often leads to no response from the employer. How do differentiate yourself from other job candidates and get an interview? Building a body of work to show a potential employer, not only shows the quality of your work, but also shows your level of preparation and your desire to wow an employer.

What do you need in your portfolio? Multiples copies of your resume so you can give one to each person you meet at job fair or an interview. Using a rotary trimmer, mat a variety of your writings and other work you have produced. Take pictures of projects that you have been responsible for and include them in your portfolio. Provide potential employers a list of equipment that you can use including computers, printers, paper cutters and any other type of equipment that would differentiate you from your competitors.

Create a brochure of your capabilities and skills. Instead of handing out a typical resume, create a brochure-like handout to give to potential employers. Showing your creativity might be the edge you need to get an interview. Use a paper folder to get a polished look to your resume-brochure. You will find building a portfolio of your work advantageous when preparing for your next interview.

Professional Tattoo Shop Convinced Me to Get a Tattoo

I will have to admit, I have always been very terrified about getting a tattoo. Now that might seem a bit silly, but there are two things that bother me about them: the fact that they are permanent, and that they use needles (I don’t like needles).

Even though they scare me, I have always admired the many butterfly tattoos that all of my girlfriends have. I also like the dolphins as well, and I have been considering getting some sort of tattoo to celebrate my graduation from college.

I decided to go to Bullseye Tattoos – a tattoo shop in town – and talk to them about my fears of getting a tattoo and what sort of options that I had. I told them that I was looking for something that was discreet, but it would also be something I could show off when I was wearing my bikini.

They suggested that I pick one of the religious tattoos that they offered, and that totally made sense to me. I made an appointment, and got one.

Now, I have a tattoo on my lower back that I will have forever – something to remember all the hard work that I did in college – I love it!

How Can Online News Media Survive?

Online news media sources must change their approach to publishing news if they want to survive in a marketplace which is becoming more and more competitive as new social media news sites are developed and vie for readers’ attention and loyalty.

The reality is that this far into the development of the Internet online editions of major newspapers still depend upon newsprint editions of their paper for content as well as financial support.   The fact is that newsprint editions are still the most popular way by which people get their news. Today the number of people that read traditional newspapers online are a fraction of those who read the equivalent daily newsprint editions. These readers also tend to read more articles offline as compared with online.

The key for news media including newspapers survival is adaptation. Adaptation to the land of user-generated news. This is where the future lies and this is where online news media is headed. Any newspaper that does not change its approach will probably not survive.

My Husband’s Back Surgery

Several years ago, my husband had to have back surgery for a herniated disc.  The human spine is set up with discs of soft material as a cushion between the vertabre.  They are kind of like water balloons, so if the outer layer ruptures, the soft material inside balloons out and can cause problems by pushing against the nerves that run down the spine.  In my husband’s case, he was having a lot of pain, numbness, and loss of strength in his left leg as a result of the herniated disc.

As my husband found out, good back pain relief is hard to come by.  Most over-the-counter painkillers don’t even begin to cut through the pain, and of course taking more than the recommended dose, or taking stronger prescription painkillers, can be hard on your body — especially over long periods of time.  But the pain caused by chronic back problems is so debilitating that you really need some type of effective pain management.

There are other, alternative methods of pain management, of course.  One of the best well-kept secrets is the connection between magnet and healing.  Studies have found that when placed in a certain way directly over an irritated nerve, a magnetic field can actually block the pain transmission from the nerve to the brain.  Magnets are therefore a very unexpected, but very effective way of managing chronic back pain.

Just make sure that if you do have something like my husband’s herniated disc, something that requires surgery, you have it taken care of — masking the symptoms and leaving a problem untended can actually invite worse injury!

Learning to Use a CPAP Machine

There were two things that made me really unhappy when I first found out that I needed to use a sleep apnea machine every night. The first was that I was unhappy about the fact that I had problems with sleep apnea in the first place. The second was that I don’t like learning new things.

I wish that I was someone who enjoyed the process of learning things. I like having learned new things; I just hate the process of learning them. I think it’s because I was always a precocious kid who came to expect things to be easy for me.

So when I first had to use a CPAP machine, I immediately became frustrated. CPAP equipment isn’t difficult to use. However it takes a little bit of getting used to since you’re so used to sleeping without it. I don’t like that whole "getting used to" period of time.

Eventually, I did get adjusted to the use of the machine and it wasn’t that big of a deal. I sleep better and feel better during the day as a result. It was a good thing to learn how to do. But I sure didn’t like having to learn it!
