Building a Portfolio that Wows

Looking for a new job can often be a frustrating experience. Surfing the net, finding an interesting job posting and sending in resumes often leads to no response from the employer. How do differentiate yourself from other job candidates and get an interview? Building a body of work to show a potential employer, not only shows the quality of your work, but also shows your level of preparation and your desire to wow an employer.

What do you need in your portfolio? Multiples copies of your resume so you can give one to each person you meet at job fair or an interview. Using a rotary trimmer, mat a variety of your writings and other work you have produced. Take pictures of projects that you have been responsible for and include them in your portfolio. Provide potential employers a list of equipment that you can use including computers, printers, paper cutters and any other type of equipment that would differentiate you from your competitors.

Create a brochure of your capabilities and skills. Instead of handing out a typical resume, create a brochure-like handout to give to potential employers. Showing your creativity might be the edge you need to get an interview. Use a paper folder to get a polished look to your resume-brochure. You will find building a portfolio of your work advantageous when preparing for your next interview.
