Tough Job Market
Posted by Peeps on 09/22/08 in Careers
I have been looking for a job, and the search has proved more difficult than I would have imagined. I’m a little older (only in my forties, not geriatric), over educated because of a silly master’s degree I picked up along the way, and have too much management experience. Most of the jobs I have applied for are below me. I’m not trying to be arrogant; I’m just saying that I am overqualified.
It would appear that the only people who are hiring are those who are looking for commission only sales people. There are so many openings for people who want to sell things like disability insurance for physicians, dentist disability insurance, disability insurance in general, or frankly, any kind of insurance at all!
Let’s not forget about the used car sales type of commission paying jobs either. It seems like those types of commission sales jobs are always hiring. It is probably because of the revolving door nature of those jobs. But who wants to be in pressure sales? Not me, that’s for sure! I just don’t see myself shilling away for some time share development or hawking jewelry at a store in the mall anytime soon. I just want to find something low key with a more stable income than commission sales.
