Many Teachers Buy Their Own Supplies
Posted by peoples on 09/20/08 in Education
Teachers don’t make a whole lot of money. They work long hours and then take work home with them at the end of the day so their hourly rate ends up being even less than what it says in their contracts or on their pay stubs. And yet, many teachers end up paying for classroom supplies out of their own pockets.
Teachers will often find that there just isn’t enough money in a school’s budget to cover all of the things that their classrooms actually need. Many will ask for donations of different items from parents to help get some of those supplies. However, they will often purchase student supplies and their own teacher supplies on their own dime because otherwise the classroom isn’t going to get what it needs.
This reflects the commitment that most teachers have to their students and to their classrooms. Whether they stay at the job a year or a lifetime, they throw themselves into the work and they put their all into making sure that the classroom is the best classroom it can be. There aren’t too many other jobs out there where people who don’t make much money are actually spending their money on doing the job well!
