When College Degrees Online Aren’t for Everyone
Posted by PWL on 02/22/08 in Education
Even though getting an online graduate degree can be as easy as finding the closest internet connection, there are still times when online learning may not be right for some individuals. As those earning college degrees online have found, one must be very self disciplined and set aside time to work throughout the week without fail. Though classes are often set up on a syllabus, one will still need to complete assignments on a timely basis in order to move through the curriculum. While students do have access to instructors via email, instant messenger or phone, it will not be the teacher’s job to make sure assignments are turned in on time.
When looking to earn something like a business degree online, many distance learning programs require meetings or lectures to be attended via webcam. Though these lectures may be offered only once per week or month, it is an important part of the curriculum that should not be missed. Online learning is not a best bet for those who are intimidated by the thought of being self directed. Those who would rather be guided in their studies with a set schedule would do better to attend an onsite campus.
