Children’s Medical Insurance: Florida Ranks Low

When it comes to children’s medical insurance Florida has one of the highest rates of uninsured children in the country. At 18.9 percent in 2006, the Sunshine State was 2^nd to only Texas in the number of children without any type of medical insurance coverage. These staggering numbers are very disturbing as the health of children is so very important to their overall success in life. It is estimated that somewhere around 771,000 children in the state have no insurance and many come from families that cannot afford to pay doctor’s bills.

Without quality health insurance Florida children will suffer in many different ways. Not only can they not visit the doctor when they are ill, but they cannot get the immunizations that they need to stay healthy. In rare cases, children have been refused entry from schools, as their parents cannot afford immunizations because of the lack of Florida group health insurance plans at work. When families make above a certain income level, obtaining state assisted healthcare for their children is impossible, so often insurance is unaffordable. Though many of these families feel that they cannot afford insurance coverage for their children, with a bit of searching and the advice of an expert, a policy can be found that just may save these children’s lives.
