How Can Online News Media Survive?
Posted by PWL on 07/18/08 in Internet
Online news media sources must change their approach to publishing news if they want to survive in a marketplace which is becoming more and more competitive as new social media news sites are developed and vie for readers’ attention and loyalty.
The reality is that this far into the development of the Internet online editions of major newspapers still depend upon newsprint editions of their paper for content as well as financial support. The fact is that newsprint editions are still the most popular way by which people get their news. Today the number of people that read traditional newspapers online are a fraction of those who read the equivalent daily newsprint editions. These readers also tend to read more articles offline as compared with online.
The key for news media including newspapers survival is adaptation. Adaptation to the land of user-generated news. This is where the future lies and this is where online news media is headed. Any newspaper that does not change its approach will probably not survive.
