Most of us think that we can take care of the basic details of organizing our homes without much assistance. However, not everyone has a mind that’s good for organizational design. Sometimes it makes a lot more sense to get a little bit of help from someone who just sees space differently than we do.

That’s what I learned when I was trying to figure out my garage floor plans. I had taken care of the rest of my house plans just fine but I was completely at a loss for what to do with the garage. I didn’t know how big I wanted it or what type of storage I could use it for. I thought I wanted to create a workspace in addition to the space for my car but I didn’t really know if that made sense.

Luckily, I have a great network of people in my life who can help me with the things that I’m not as good at as they are. A couple that I know has a great sense of style and I decided to ask them if they had any ideas about my garage plans. I invited them over to dinner so they could take a look at the space. Before dinner was done, we had a plan for what to do with my garage.

The design that they came up with featured everything I wanted but it was a look I would never have come up with myself. I think people just have different skills and organized design isn’t really one of mine. There’s definitely no shame in getting help from others; they were glad to do it and I have a garage that works for me!
