Prejudice Against Skull Tattoos

Tattoos are increasingly seen among the mainstream population. As a result they have become more widely accepted than they used to be in terms of approval in professional settings. Nevertheless, there are some tattoos that employers continue to look at with something of a closed mind when they see them on an employee (or on a person that they’re considering hiring).

For example, many employers are perfectly happy to ignore pleasant tattoos (such as fairy tattoos) and neutral tattoos (such as sun tattoos). Those same employers may frown upon noticing skull tattoos on the body of an employee. That’s because images of skulls still tend to be thought of as threatening or rebellious - traits that aren’t appealing in the work place.

You and I both know that a skull tattoo doesn’t mean you can’t do your work. But you should also be aware of the fact that tattoos like this remain a little bit taboo in the workplace and can hinder your chances of getting a mainstream job. If that doesn’t bother you, then don’t worry about it. But if it’s an issue of concern, you might want to make sure that any skull tattoos you get are in a place on your body that can be covered up by professional attire.
